How to Apply Fusible Hemming Tape:

1. Position the Tape: Place a strip of tape along the hemline or edge of your fabric where you want to bond the layers.
2. Step 1 – Initial Bonding: With the paper backing still on, apply heat from a household iron or pressing machine over the tape. This secures the tape lightly to the fabric, allowing you to work in steps.
3. Step 2 – Remove Paper Backing: Once the tape is secured, peel off the paper backing to reveal the adhesive side of the tape.
4. Step 3 – Final Bonding: Fold the fabric over the exposed adhesive side of the tape and press with your hot iron to permanently bond the layers.

Pro Tip: The tape is designed to handle various iron settings since you never apply heat directly to it – there’s always a layer of paper or fabric in between.

Use the Overcast Presser Foot, a universal sewing machine attachment, in combination with an overcasting stitch to get neatly finished edges. With this foot, overlock or overcasting stitches will bind the edge of the fabric perfectly to prevent it from fraying. The end result looks like the finished edges that a serger creates! 

The overcast foot features 

• a guide bar at the side to keep the fabric in line and 

• a bridge in the middle to make sure the stitches lay flat. 

Your overcasting stitches are created right on the edge and your fabric will not bunch up or pucker. Varying zig zag and overlock stitch widths can be used with this foot. Most home sewing machines have at least 1 or 2 built-in overlock/overcast stitches. It can also be used for stretch and knit fabrics.

If you go back and forth between wanting a serger and being happy with your sewing machine, first take your chance on the overcast presser foot. • Go slow - the needle does have to go back and forth over the vertical metal piece, but gives a very even stitch.

• Cut your seam allowance down to ¼  inch if your seam allowances is ½  - ⅝  inch. 

• There is a bar in the center of the presser foot that controls the stitches. Be careful when you finish sewing and go to remove your fabric, as the last few stitches will be caught over this bar. Pull the fabric away from you, toward the back of your sewing machine, in order to free the thread from the bar. Otherwise, you might tear or distort the last few stitches.

The MadamSew Chalk Markers don’t fade or brush off too easily, but at the same time they are not hard to rub off either. Gently rub the fabric with your hands or a brush, wash out with plain water, or remove with a damp cloth.

The MadamSew Chalk Markers don’t fade or brush off too easily, but at the same time they are not hard to rub off either.

• Gently rub the fabric with your hands or a brush,
• wash out with plain water, or
• remove with a damp cloth. 

TIP: Always test on a scrap or back of all project fabrics before using any marker on a finished project. You never know how a certain fabric will react!

It just takes a minute to install a replacement blade on the handle of your Bird Nest Toolkit's knife. The blades are super sharp so be extra careful when you handle the blades. 

• To remove the old blade, carefully lift the bottom of the blade until it unlocks from the handle. With one hand you lift the bottom, with the other you pull the blade away from the handle. Slide the blade off the handle, moving it away from the handle.

• To install a new blade, put the handle through the opening of the blade. Align the blade into the groove of the handle and check that the diagonal lines (on the handle) are parallel with the blade. Gently slide the blade toward the handle until it locks in place.
