My grandmother taught me to sew at 4 by hand and at 6 yrs . on her treadle Singer. I still use it as well as my aunts Singer featherweight and my computerized machine, love them all. My family teases me that I will soon need an extra house to hold all my machines, fabric and sewing supplies.

I started sewing at age 8 on my great-grandmother’s Singer treadle. I am still sewing 59 years later and the Singer treadle in it’s original oak and cast iron cabinet is in my living room. It still works and connects me to the women in my family who came before me.

I find it hard to not buy trimming and buttons.
