Yes. The dense felted wool holds the iron's heat and sends it back up through the fabric, so seams press crisp from both sides at once. Steam and moisture can pass through the mat, though, so put it on a heat-safe surface or protect a wood table or other delicate surface underneath.

At 17 by 24 inches it's the long version of our original mat, with room for borders, sashing and long seams in one press. It comes with a clear vinyl pouch for storage.

Yes, with heat rather than washing. Press at 180°F / 80°C or above and the marks vanish. As always, test on a scrap of your fabric first.

Two things worth knowing: store the pens tip-down and tightly capped and use them within about five months, and marks can reappear if a finished piece is stored below 32°F / 0°C, in an unheated garage or a winter car boot, for instance. Another quick press removes them again, but it's worth skipping them on the top of a show quilt.

It needs a metal needle plate with about 1.5 inches of flat metal surface for the magnet to grip. Most domestic machines have this. It's safe to use on computerized machines, since the magnet is small and sits on the plate, not near the electronics.

If your machine has a plastic needle plate area, the ruler still works perfectly for setting and measuring your allowance; you'd just guide the fabric by the markings rather than against the magnetic stop.
