Everything you need to know about Madam Sew's Sew-On Button Presser Foot

With the Sew-On Button Presser Foot, you can attach buttons (no matter the shape!) with your sewing machine in no time! The rubber sleeve on the foot will hold the button firmly in place while you sew.

This foot is very short and has a wide opening providing a clear view of the stitching area.

The thickness of the foot will create a fixed space between the fabric and button, which will benefit the uniformity of your stitches.

1. Switch off your sewing machine.

2. Snap the foot onto your machine like you would with the presser feet that came with your machine. This will work on the majority of sewing machines. If it doesn't, please contact us with your sewing machine brand and model and we will help you out, hello@madamsew.com .

3. Lower/disable/cover the feed dogs of your sewing machine. Check your machine’s manual if you don’t know how to do this. 

4. Position the button under the needle, between the Sew-On Button Presser Foot and the needle plate of your sewing machine. 

5. Set your stitches to a zigzag stitch (max stitch width = 5 mm). Adjust the stitch width according to the button. The width of the stitch has to match the 2 horizontal holes of the button. Test with the hand wheel to see if the needle goes in the right holes.

6. Sew several stitches.  

7. Cut the thread ends with a long enough tail so that you can bring them to the back of the button with a hand needle and secure or tie off the threads.

For buttons with 4 holes, sew the two front holes first, then move the button and sew the back two holes.
