DIY Halloween Goodie Bag!

I made a Halloween themed goody bag and we're sharing this very easy project with you today. My 4 year old daughter LOVES parties. When her birthday and the holidays come around she loves to plan the parties. Every party needs party balloons, party hats, cake, presents, and of course- goody bags. This quick and easy sewing project was inspired by her and it turned out pretty cute. By using Halloween themed fabrics, these goody bags can also be used as Halloween trick and treat bags.

These are the materials you need to make a simple goodie bag:

Gather the fabrics needed for this project:

Cotton for the front, borders, back, and lining (fat quarters work perfectly) in the theme of the party. You probably have enough fabric scraps to make these without running to the store

Step by Step Instructions to Make this Halloween Goodie Bag

1. Make the Front Side

Start by cutting your front fabric. I wanted a goody bag that could hold a full size candy bar (or 3) so I cut mine 7 ¼” x 7 ¼”. If you want it smaller or bigger, adjust your measurements accordingly.

Next, you want to cut your borders. I cut the top and bottom borders 2 inches wide and 7 ¼” long. The side borders were cut 2 inches wide and 9 ¾” long.

Attach your ¼” quilting foot with guide and sew the top and bottom borders on first.

Once the top and bottom borders are sewn on, sew the side borders on. Press the seams towards the center square.

Trim up the edges so they're even. Attach your edge joining foot and stitch-in-the-ditch along your seam lines.

2. Make the Back Side

Now that your top square is prepped, it’s time to cut your back and lining squares. Measure your top square again and this will be the size you cut your lining and back. My top square measured 8 ½”x 8 ½”. Cut one square out of your backing fabric and 2 squares out of your lining fabric.

Putting right sides together, sew the front and back together leaving the top open using your ¼” quilting foot with guide.

3. Make the Lining

Sew 3 sides of the lining fabric pieces together, right sides facing, leave the top open, and leave a hole at the bottom so you can turn it later. Clip the corners.

4. Assemble the Goody Bag

Flip the outside of your bag right side out. Right sides together, clip the outside of your bag and the lining together, matching side seams. Sew your ¼” seam all around the top.

Turn your bag right side out through the hole in your lining. Using needle and thread, slip stitch the opening in your lining closed.

Pull the front and back part of the bag apart and tuck the lining into the bag. Push out the corners so the bag is nice and flat.

There you have it! A super simple and cute goody bag :)

I love the way these goody bags turned out. They are so easy to sew. It doesn't take much time at all. You can make one for all the children at the party and stuff them with candy or little presents. This pattern can be used for many different little bags by just changing the fabrics or the size.
