Sharing a pattern for free is often a way to show their talent to a wider audience and for us sewers it’s a way of discovering new designers and maybe taking a first step in making clothes. It’s a smaller step if you don’t have to dig too deep in your wallet to get started, right? A big thank you to all the designers who share their beautiful dress patterns with us all!

Peppermint is an Australian quarterly print magazine focused on style, sustainability, sewing and substance. They’re passionate about all things craft, creativity and community, which is why they have an extensive range of gorgeous sewing patterns on their website. These dress patterns are all free to download. There is a PDF download for every clothing pattern listed. With these free clothing patterns they want to help you to sew together a sustainable wardrobe to suit yourself (and our planet). We love this idea!

The Bowen Dress is the latest new sewing pattern on Peppermint. They collaborated with patternmaker Kim Sisson from Hubba Ding. She created the ultimate in comfort dressing. An easy sew maxi dress. The Bowen Dress is an extravagantly voluminous tent dress with relaxed dropped shoulders and ruffle sleeves.

Nicole is a designer with South African roots, living in Southern California. On her website she shares beautiful DIY projects for your home and yourself and also organizes workshops in San Diego.

She created this beautiful Tulip dress pattern that she saw in an expensive Danish store and decided to make it herself. And now she shares her free pattern with the world. How great is that? This dress looks amazing, is super comfy and doesn’t need to be ironed. What more do you want?

You need knit fabric to sew this dress. There is no PFD pattern to download and print for this dress pattern, Nicole just explains step by step how to adapt the dress to your size. The Tulip Dress can be made in all sizes!

Melissa is a writer, teacher and designer of her own store Blake Slate Patterns and she also designs fabric for Riley Blake. Her website Mellysews has a lot of interesting tutorials about sewing and a shop with her own patterns. She lives in Austin, Texas.

This Pillowcase dress she shares for free on her website and she warns women above 12 to take account of some rules/warnings before making this dress. If you don’t, you are taking a risk! Melissa doesn’t want anyone to look like they are wearing a sack :-) We are all ears!

The fabric choice for this dress is important. Don’t use quilting cotton. And the length: Make the dress above the knee or go for maxi length (ankles) !

The Pillowcase dress is also a dress without a printable PDF pattern. Melissa explains clearly how to take your measurements, how to draw the different pattern pieces and copy them onto your fabric.

Moodfabrics is a big fabric brand and online store but also has a blog called Mood Sewciety. This blog has tutorials, free sewing patterns, and virtual classes. It is a great resource of information! You should definitely check out all of the free sewing patterns for clothing they have! There are more dress patterns with free PDF downloads to be found on this blog!

We picked out the Hanna Bias Cut Dress because it is a very versatile piece of clothing and a classic design. You can wear it on a date night, to go to the office, or with a loose sweater, a belt and tights, you could even wear it in fall. This dress can be made in linen, silk or cotton. A print works really well with this classy simple shape. This dress pattern is available from size 0 to 32.

Did you know that on average, 15% of fabric is wasted every time a garment is made? Ah! That hurts! Charlie from Offset Warehouse is on a mission to eliminate this and designed this zero waste dress. A zero waste pattern is a sewing pattern that uses all the fabric and nothing is thrown away. Offset Warehouse is a UK based company that sells ethical and sustainable textiles and ships worldwide. Everytime you buy from them you can feel good that the environment is being carefully looked after and the farmers or weavers that are involved in the process are being paid correctly for their work.

To get the pattern you need to go through their buying process but you won’t pay a thing, I tested it and you will get the PFD printable download in your mails. At checkout you pay 0 dollars. This pattern works with most fabrics, and is available in all sizes as you start from your own measurements. There is no printable pattern, you just draw the pattern pieces that are rectangular and carefully explained, on the fabric.
