Overcast/Overlock foot - Use your sewing machine as a serger

Regular price $8.99 USD Sale

Use this foot in combination with an overlocking stitch for a neatly finished seam. It features a guide bar that keeps the fabric aligned, so the overlock stitches will bind the edge of the seam perfectly to prevent fraying. The end result looks much like serging. So much better than trying to overlock a seam without the presser foot!

If you go back and forth between wanting a serger and being content with your sewing machine, first take your chance on this presser foot. You will be glad you did because this foot really works (and you can use the money you saved on fabric). You will be able to create a perfect overlock stitch with minimal effort and the stitches will be so much more even than without it. This foot features an edge guide that keeps the material very straight for a perfect edge. It also has a ‘pin' or bar running through the center and this controls the stitch so that it lays nice and flat, overcasting the fabric edge without making it bunch up and pucker.

At MadamSew some of us owning a serger still prefer using this overcast presser foot. They find the serger a pain to set up and thread and don’t like the seams it makes as well as on their regular machines. A quote: “I like to sew a regular seam, make any final adjustments needed, then trim the seam and use this foot with a zigzag stitch. I like being able to make adjustments...can't do that when serged. And I like how much better the seams come out using this method.”

  • Overcast and sew a seam at the same time
  • Use like a serger (it does not cut the fabric like a serger, but it allows you to sew an interlocking hem along a raw edge)
  • Varying zig zag and overlock stitch widths can be used with this foot
  • Conceals fabric edges, also for stretch and knit fabrics
  • Makes finishing seams much easier and garments look more professional, reach a whole new level of awesome

  • go slow - the needle does have to go back and forth over the vertical metal piece, but gives a very even stitch.
  • If you want to overcast and sew the seam in one pass, you'll need to cut your seam allowance down to 1/4 inch as most seam allowances are 1/2 - 5/8 inch. This saves you from having to change from one sewing foot to another.
  • There is a bar that divides the presser foot, on the underside. Be careful when you finish sewing and go to remove your fabric, as the last few stitches will be caught over this bar. Pull the fabric away from you, toward the back of your sewing machine, in order to free the thread from the bar. Otherwise, you might tear or distort the last few stitches.

This Presser Foot is also included in our top-of-the-line 32 pcs Presser Foot Set.
